Our recommendation is Aladdin if a familiar Disney world and a visually rich adventure are central to your idea of Broadway. Shortlist Hadestown if you are drawn to mythology and romance and want to discover a less familiar story. You do not need to read the full plot of either musical to make that choice; a short official overview is enough.
Which show should you consider with children?
Read the current age guidance for both productions. The Disney name can make Aladdin an obvious first candidate, but still consider the length of the outing. Hadestown requires its own content and sensory check, including the production’s notice about strobe-like effects. Choose around your child’s needs rather than assuming that all musicals are interchangeable family entertainment.
What if English is not your first language?
A familiar story may make it easier to follow the broad action, but neither show becomes a translated performance because you buy through a localised website.
