Chicago is our starting suggestion for visitors who are drawn to jazz, choreography and a story about fame and public image. Hadestown is our suggestion for a myth-inspired romance and a more atmospheric narrative. Listen to official music previews if musical taste will decide the evening; an awards tally cannot tell you which score you will enjoy.
Choosing for a date night
For a celebratory night, decide whether you want the mood of a jazz-and-dance show or a mythic love story. Both can be candidates for a couples’ evening, but they are not interchangeable. Make the show the main booking, then choose dinner and transport that leave enough time before entry.
Choosing seats when comfort or access matters
Start with the theatre’s access information before comparing prices. The Ambassador Theatre has specific restrictions on access to its upper levels; the Walter Kerr requires its own seat and access checks. Do not transfer assumptions from one seating chart to another. Confirm your needs with the relevant theatre and booking provider.
Choosing for teenagers or a mixed-age group
Use the separate official age and content guidance for each production. The fact that a teenager enjoys music does not settle whether the themes, effects or length are right for them. Give everyone in your group a short, spoiler-light description and choose a performance time that works for the youngest or most easily tired person.
